Hi kirsty and welcome to MFK!

Heros "sp Rotkeil" is the scientific name (I think) and red shouldered severum is a common name.

Same fish. Use Heros sp. Rotkiel, it is more correct They are not really a H. severum. Ken

There is no such thing as H. severum, the Latin name is H. severus. The common name 'severum' is [unfortunately] used for all four species of the genus Heros.
Rotkeil is German for 'red shoulder/head', and the accepted name is Heros Sp.Rotkeil. It is not a proper scientific name, the Heros Sp. part means that is an as-yet undescribed member of the genus Heros, and the Rotkeil is just a handle attached to that particular "species", which may be described as a valid species or as a subspecies of one of the existing four species of the genus Heros

You can see from the fish below. Red Head and Red Shoulder are the same fish. The female here would likely be considered Red Shoulder, and the Male Red Head, but they are in fact the same fish both Heros Severus

No they are not. They are Heros Sp. Rotkeil which means they are an unidentified member of the genus Heros. When they are described they may be classified as subspecies or even just a varient of the species H. severus, or they might be given their own species name and become the fifth species in the genus, but for now they are simply an undescribed entity.

I'll settle this by simply describing them for everyone.

Ssp. Heros Sp. Rotkeil strawberrius facus killerious

There, done.

Also, to clear up a possible issue with the common name, lets all just stick with strawberry face as fish obviously don't have shoulders.
