Catching goldfish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it could have been in the pond since it was a juvenile...
say i take a gar from the time it is a fry...feed it feeder fish, and let it go once its big enough to fend for itself...it would survive...almost as if you just raised it...and set it free...
i agree that noone should let a fully grown goldfish go in a lake...but there is no way to tell how long the fish has been there....some kid might have had it when it was just a little guy..and the parents got tired of hearing about it, and dropped it off in the lake...then it spent its entire life in that lake...and now your going to remove it from the habitat its grown to know?

It is not in a lake. It is in a creek that feeds into the Susquehanna River.

ok...i just like playing devils advocate...
i can agree to disagree lol..
have fun, good luck angling it

It's just a butterfly koi. This type of koi has long wavy fins, more expensive than your standard koi. It also depends on their coloration. Goldfish do not grow that big. I have caught many koi/carp back home. You do not want to use a worm, because they are more vegetarians than canivores. They don't have any teeth, and rely on sucking in their food. You can fish for them the same way you would carp/koi. Grab a can of your canned corn, such as green giant or del monte, etc. Use a small size 8 hook, no bigger, and put on 1-2 kernels of corn. Use only a tiny split shot if there is too much current. Grab a handful of corn, and chum. I would also recommend using 4-6 lb test line. I have caught many giant carp on 4 lb line. I've known people who have used 2 lb test as well. It's possible to land 40 lb fish with light line, and not as hard as you think. The lighter the line, the better. Carp will spit out your hook if they feel any sort of resistance from your weight, bobber, or even fishing line. I've fished carp for many many years back home in California. Good luck.

I never said goldfish are carp. If you read what I wrote, I said it's NOT a goldfish. Goldfish do not grow to 2 feet long. There is no such thing. I said it's a butterfly koi. Repeat, NOT a 2 foot long goldfish.
