lol i just googled the Brachyplatystoma filamentosum and its the same fish that guy posted the thread on b4. the catfish that looks like a devil shark! simply amazing. but im torn between that and the wallago. i love how the wallago's tail evens out at the ends to look like a CKs tail. nature at its finest. on the other hand having a substitute shark has its perks too. ahhhhhh the choices...

Biggest I have seen in aquarium was like 4', but I am sure they could go 5 or 6' in captivity. I have always been tempted to keep wallago, but always felt they needed a tank to themselves with their temperments, but with a large enough tank I guess anything is possible

in arapaimags video they showed the wallago peacefully coexisting with a decent sized RTC (still like 1/4 the size of the wallago) but then again the wallago had just cleared out a school of 12'' oscars! so yeh ure probably right. very risky fish to keep indeed indeed. i can totally envision a wallago feasting on my TSNs which have fallen behind in the growth race.

they actually consider them man eaters too. They are known to take chunks out of peoples legs, and feast on the dead dumped in the river. I am afraid to put anyfish with serious teeth in with my relatively peaceful catfish. The jau is aggressive enough lol, and he gets huge anyway!

lol, that's how I got her, and she's my wife now. I told her to come back to my place and pet my catfish. She thought I was being kinky and laughed when I showed them to her. She likes them, and is not affraid of them, but definitely doesn't like to take care of them while i am gone lol. I had other girls before her scream their heads off and run away though. Some girls like it others are freaked. Might as well start bringing them around so that you can weed out the wimps.

On the Rio Araguaia, I wish...
Cliff, very nice updates man. Glad to see all your shovelnose and various other kitties are doing well. I do need a favor....some indepth filtration pics/info via pm...I still haven't done it :(

Also I noticed in a couple of the pics it looks like your TSN's have lightened up alot color wise especially behind the gills to the tail. Are they eating normally still and fine? Reason I'm asking is mine did the same thing when I moved it into the pond. Eating like a horse still but definately alot lighter especilally at night. I need to take some updated pics of mine but have been lazy lately. Do you have any full or mostly full overhead shots of the whole pond?

How far off is your "real" pond the 4000 gallon one? I'm plotting much like yourself about mine down the road to house my shovelnose and actually in the market (pending I don't blow all my cash on azuls and other pbass in the near future) for a large Juruense since I lost my smaller one and maybe another planiceps since its about the right time for the babies to come into Baltimore area again. Glad to see all is well bro ~Trent

yeh that seems to be the case with my TSN as well. im assuming it has sumthing to do with being exposed to more light. i can only imagine the differences between an enclosed tank and an open pond setup. tigers truly strive in open spaces. they are actually active even during the day. the RTCs on the other hand....hmmmmmm zzzzzzzzz
