Ghost shrimp may breed but won’t release viable fry in freshwater…they need brackish water.
I collect ghost shrimp, locals also call them "glass shrimp" or "grass shrimp", from several local water bodies, none of which are connected to salt or brackish water, being several hundred miles from the nearest ocean. I realize that there are many species of "Ghost Shrimp" (Palaemonetes sp.) but I assure you that at least several species live their entire lives, and reproduce, in fresh water.

I’m sure you’re right but I’m talking about the feeder shrimp commercially sold as “ghost shrimp”

My daughter and wife bought me a canister filter early father's day gift. Unfortunately I returned the canister but bought a group of cherry shrimp.
A tiny shrimplet spotted so that is a positive sign hopefully. My first freshwater shrimp keeping experience.

When those shrimp get going and ramp up production, you should have a nice ongoing supply of tiny live shrimplets for the pipefish. Might take up some slack in terms of feeding them if you are absent for a day, and hopefully the addition of a new food source will help ensure balanced nutrition for the fish. And of course the shrimp would add colour and motion to a tank that is likely pretty quiet.

I love checking out this thread, but I can barely handle the stress of having new fry that require multiple daily feedings for the first weeks of life. A fish species that would need that kind of attention and dedication on an ongoing permanent basis would give me ulcers! :)
