Hey guys,

I have been on google and searched for pics for the aurantimaculata and found that some are orange and some are golden?
Are they the same species or different? Just variations on colour?

Is there different names for them?

Thanks,
Swarsh

No "variations" of Channalover Aurantimaculata.
Picture showing different colors on the Internet could be for one of a million reasons!

I actually know someone who has a Aurantimaculata, well two people.
One has one that is quite golden and doesnt have the stripey (orange) bits on its fins, and my other friend has one that is orange and has the orange stripes also...

Is it just female/male or ? I heard that one is the golden cobra? and not sure about the other but they are both Channa Aurantimaculata?

There is no variations.
Sure some may vary slightly from individual to individual, but thats the same with any fish.
Tank lighting will affect the colors of fish too.
You friend .A may have one color temperature in his tank, while friend .b will likely have another.

There is only one Channa Aurantimaculata, "Golden Spotted Cobra" is another stupid common name given to it.

They are both Aurantimaculata.
The 2nd picture is more close to the ACTUAL colors.
The first picture just looks different shade due to tank lighting.
At a guess, the 1st pic has some pink in the lighting.

Hi,

lighting and sometimes the anlge while fotographing plays a bog role when getting fish on fotopaper.
There surely is just ONE aurantimaculata.

Thanks tokyo

Ahh I see,
Just to confirm~ Auranti's can be in a tank with temps from 22-28c right?
I was hoping I could have one with my aro but will it be ok or would I need to put it in a different tank?

Thanks

Hi,

no, aurantimaculataneeds cooler than that, and Arowana are very bad company for snakeheads.
Give the channa an extra tank.

Will they fight or?
I have another tank, but was just hoping that they could go together :(
