Cheap plants, less nitrate! POTHOS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah their probably longer now if she hasn't trimmed them yet. I know the that reached in my old 29 had to be atleast 30-40' . It reached from one corner of her dinning room around a wall up a beam and across the living room into the tank and out the window. It might actually be longer then 40' now I think about it.

I have been growing Pothos in my 600 gallons sump for about 5 weeks now. My nitrates still read high. too high for my liking. Everything else is perfect 0 nitrite and ammonia. I trimmed all the roots from the plant back to about 1/2" when first put into the sump. they are growing like crazy Roots about 4-5 inches plus. The plant its self has grown allot also. No change in nitrates overall. Lights on 24/7 in the sump for the plant. I took one large plant which tore apart into about 15 little stocks which are growing well. Here is just my experience. These pictures are from 2 weeks ago so the roots have grown allot more now. The plant is large remember That's a 125 gallon tank. So 22+ inches tall . Plant holder so 12x10 inches uploadfromtaptalk1349792815383.jpguploadfromtaptalk1349792840878.jpguploadfromtaptalk1349792865394.jpg

I'm still waiting for the results. I have even changed my sump a bit to start a drip plate over my Bio ball area to hope for a drop. Now because of this change I won't know exactly which made the change happen when it happens.

why less light? I would think the plant overall needs more light than that.

.
Don't use so much light. 4 hours a day max.

You need more, I have almost 40 stalks. But you should still see a difference soon, also your fish are growing still so they will produce more no3.

It's just not necessary, I don't think it will harm the plant, I keep mine on my aquarium lite timer.

BTW looks great. Love that sump setup

I'll take some real pics later and see if you guys have any ideas. I just want space for everything else in my sump rather than all Pothos. Never thought I would need a larger sump. Lol. Maybe Ill setup a plant tank. The bulb is a nice compact fluorescent 17watt bulb so it's not much power considering all the other power the tank uses. Lol.
