Ok so my husband was sent to the LFS to get rid of our Fahaka Puffer cause well he bites and it made cleaning the tank really freaking difficult. He was sent alone cause our 4 year old is sick. When he returned home he had been talked into 5 mini dovii or Cichlasoma grammodes. I had never heard of them. I have always wanted a Wolf Dovii cause of their coloration but was always told no cause they get. I know these only get to 12 inches and that they are mean lol. Is there any other information on them someone on here can give me?? They are 2-2 1/2" right now and cute but I have learned with my pet Jag cute turns into psycho.

I have a female I'm selling right now. Very cool fish. Same attitude as a dovii but the personality takes time as they grow very slow. I bought my female at 4 1/2 inches and after close to a year she's maybe 6 inches. They don't really play well with others unless in a large tank or the other fish are bigger. They can be rough on each other while breeding aswell. Very picky eaters. Most people that keep them end up selling them just like me because I'm looking for a more owner responsive fish right now.

I have a mated pair that I got at the ACA when it was in Milwaukee, actually bought 5 youngsters at the time, but after bonding, the pair offed the others . The male is approx 7" female maybe 5", they rule a 75 gal, and have killed anything I've tried to keep with them. But have spawned 3 or 4 times so far. Quite secretive, they only come out when their fry are in the open grazing.

after reading baldtaxguys article, I may have to try giant danios

The dovii get alot bigger than 12in. A male dovii can reach 12in in about a year give or take. Male dovii can reach lengths of 20in plus. Grammodes max out at around 8-10in. So half the size of the dovii but almost the same attitude. Nice pick up on the Grammodes. They are a nice cichlid with awesome coloration and aggressive personality. Just be careful on putting more tankmates in there with them.

I'd have to agree with "danny2875" Dovii get very large and they put on approx 12" in a year. most people call grammodes mini Dovii because of the personality. They are quite nasty for the most part. Slow to grow but are a very impressive fish to have.

Their major downfall is how skiddish they are. I love my female but would only buy them again if I found a larger specimen
