They are all different. Mine is just shy and only comes out if she can't see me

These guys are not shy one of them will stare at you however long you stare at it. They are cute but are all ready in need of dithers due to aggression lol.
I actually had several. There not skittish IMO. They are extremely tough though, if they choose to kill/beat a cichlid they will. So be careful about their aggression.
Mine will stare me down but in her cave where she feels safe

If you look up previous posts you will see most people's expierences with grammodes show that they are very shy and extremely slow growers. I have had a few and I had one very active and the rest have been to shy for my taste. All personalities are different but more often than not the fish will be shy until it hits a certain size. Still one of my favorite cichlids I have ever owned!
I had one when i was younger. It was a male that had really cool colours but grew really slowly. Took about a year to add an inch or so, but really cool personality none the less. Really aggressive so I don't recommend tank mates, awesome pickup!
