No I haven't used the heater since mid january. The cover kept it over 70F. Now it's pretty warm in the days 80's today, nights in the 60's.

Next winter I'll have to keep the cover on a little longer since I'll hopefully have pbass in the pond.

Busy fish day for the pond. A friend of mine who owns an lfs was nice enough to hold these guys for me over the winter and get them pellet trained.

RTC/TSN Hybrid

Another gar (florida or spotted idk?)

Channel cat chased the rtc/tsn a bit but no harm done.

Quick update...

I moved the Phoenix barbs and the rest of the Tinfoils today. Like all barbs it took them about 5 minutes to settle in and start eating like pigs. The owner of a nearby lfs had a tank full of giant danios that he's had forever, he ordered them for someone who never came to get them. So he sold them to me for next to nothing to get rid of them. They look pretty cool in the pond. Probably not permanent residents but they're lighting fast so maybe???? Time will tell.

The rtc/tsn is doing great and eating well. He does this thing with the koi where they just swim around in circles like a chase but I can't tell who's chasing who. Doesn't seem to be any aggression and he can't eat them so I don't know what that's about.

Gar seem fine but they are still very shy and always move to the opposite side of the pond when they see me. Haven't seen them eat any prepared foods yet but I spotted them stalking the rosy reds I have in the pond.

Slightly worried about the arowana. He seems very nervous about all the other fish and hasn't eaten yet. As jittery as he is right now, I'm afraid at night he'll get spooked by the koi/catfish and jump out of the pond so I have 3 spolights over the pond on a dusk/dawn photo timer to keep the pond fairly well lit at night. Seems to help, he's still in the pond. He always got freaked out and would go on a 1-2 day hunger strike when I did any tank maintenance so I'm not overly concerned yet. Hopefully he just needs a little more time.

I believe you may be the first real tropical pond in the states. That is awesome what you've accomplished. All that work and determination. Hats off to you.

Added a redtail cat to the pond today. Sorry I forgot to take a pic of him before I put him in. He's about 10-11". The introduction went well, channel cat ignored him and the rtc/tsn fllowed him around like a puppy but no aggression.

My arowana seems to have settled in finally. He seems to have figured out he's tougher than the koi and goldfish and he's eating like a champ. He even chowed down on koi pellets today which was odd because in the aquarium he really didn't go for pellets, only the food sticks or krill.

At the moment it looks like this is shaping up to be yet another drought year. So I installed a Multi-Cyclone 50 prefilter to hopefully cut back on the amount of backwashing I need to do on the bead filter. It only takes a few gallons to flush out the mc50. Seems to be pulling out a good amount of muck before it gets to the bead filter. This is only 1 1/2 days worth of buildup...

Very cool Duncan, glad you decided to keep it the way it was instead of putting africans in there.
