converting cubic inches to gallons?

Hi all, second time poster. I'm looking at making a non-stnadard shaped aquarium for my wife for our anniversary, but so far, i can't determine an accurate conversion factor for cubic inches to gallons. I could go from cubic cm to liters to gallons, but that's a lot of rounding and more conversions than I'd like.

Based on what people say their tank dimensions are compared to capacity, I generally get around the 215-230 cubic inch to a gallon, but that's a pretty wide window for calculating volume. Does anyone know the accurate volume to capacity conversion?

i convert the inches into feet by dividing by 12 3 times,

then i multiply by 7.5,

then i know just about how many gallons it is.

Length X Depth X Height (all in inches) / 231= Volume in US gallons
