you shouldnt have ot do anything special with convicts, they breed faster then guppys. Theyre a good choice for feeders.

Take the male out, put the female in for a couple days so she can get used to the surroundings and establish a "territory", then add the male. Your chances for breeding go WAY up.
Oh, that's a good idea, but I have nowhere to put my convict in, just a 29g that is stuffed already. My male is pretty big, like 3 inches. I'd get a smaller pair, but I just can't give up my male, I don't have the heart....darn myself!!!!! :(

I have a pair on convicts in a 10g tank - they breed at the drop of a hat and are generally good parents (I can't keep anything else in the tank, the convicts are too territoral) I found they like to dig a hole in/under ornaments and make a cave. They also tend to pair up and won't breed with just anyone. I have 2 males and 2 females, one lot paired up and started chasing the other 2 which were removed - the other male and female won't have a bar of each other and have had to be kept seperately ever since (they are in individual bowls atm till I can find somewhere to get rid of them!)

Oh my god I knew it was possible to breed convicts in a 10g!!!! Please, tell me how your gf breeds convicts in a 10g. I have a male in the 10g, but he always kills the female...it's making me very upset. Tips please?
10g tanks!!!!sheez, that is nothing....I know two stores in my city that breed their cons in Home Depot buckets....I beleive the buckets are orange(duh) and are 5g.....I have actually seen about five bucket setups in total....Sick, yeah, but works....Throw in a $5-10 heater, 1lb of gravel, small clay flowering pot, and an AC20.....Ba-da-bing-ba-da-boom..............

Wow....i was unaware that Convicts bred this fast....good luck 94redvwjetta, so how long does it take fry to get to the 3in size and would you need another tank to put the older fry in if you had new fry.....i want a constant supply of feeders....NOT TRYIN TO JACK THE THREAD....my question jus falls right in to all of this...

my convicts spawn every couple of weeks. It takes about 5 days for the fry to become free swimming. They aren't overly fast growing (I don't recall when my oldest lot hatched - I'd est about 6 weeks ago and they are around an inch long.

It's best to remove the older fry when they get a bit bigger, I have found they eat the new fry, the parents defend the new fry and often kill the elders in the process. If you are leaving the older fry in I'd recommend a larger tank with lots of hiding places. My 10g is too small to have different ages of fry and have them not get eaten
