  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't remember seeing this thread before. I must have been out that day. I got lost when you switched to liters and grams from gallons and ounces. My metric, she's a no too good. ;)

Your right I was looking at the wrong line. My Highest level detected is Chlorine 2.02 ppm and Chlorine Dioxide 430 ppb.

From what I have read the chlorine Dioxide comes out just like Chlorine (aerating the water) but no idea how fast it will happen. I also would assume any chemicals that removed chlorine would remove it also but I can't find any info to support that.
I found a response from Seachem that should answer your second question: http://www.myaquariumclub.com/ammonia-in-established-tank-will-not-drop-15026117.html

Just for academic purposes, I contacted seachem with this question.

Does prime take care of chlorine dioxide and if so in what dose. My local water supply comes from nearby mountains and it is very soft water with a PH of 6.8, they dose chlorine dioxide into the water and I believe it is killing my beneficial bacteria even when I'm using prime.

This is their reply.

Thank you for the email and for using Prime. Prime will break the bond of any type of chlorine and/ or chloramine, leaving only non-toxic chloride atoms.

I hope this information helps. Let us know if you have further questions.

So it looks like you assumed correctly in that dechlorinators will also remove chlorine dioxide. 430ppb converts to .43ppm so you would want to dose for about 2.5ppm chlorine. Still half as much as you were using before ;)

Thanks for the info. That will make my prime go twice as far as it was going. But I'm liking the idea of the OP I might have to order some.

If your disinfectant is chlorine dioxide, you can safe money by buying cheaper sodium thiosulfate based conditioner instead of Prime. Prime has additional ingredient to neutralize ammonia in chloramine disinfethat you don't need.

Any/all info anyone needs on saving $$$$ is in the initial post, including using sodium thiosulfate that can be purchased in bulk. :)

Have any1 use start zyme from jungle brand on scaless fish? I have a frontosa that keep gasping for 2 weeks in a tank that been running for a month, i want to put water conditioner in but i have 2 scaless fish in, i dont want to let any of the fish die so please give me some info, thank u.

That product is fine with scaleless fish.

How bout safestart by tetra, is this better than start zyme? I read alot of negative common bout start zyme....after buying it =.=

I have read very good reviews about Tetra Safestart, and have personally had very good experiences with Seachem Stability. All of these products will be safe for your fish.
