Darboy's Cichla Pleiozona Growout Thread

How much did you pay for them

they were labeled cichla orinos originally then changed into different sp.'s... lfs here dunno what it was so they couldnt price that high.. got mine for about $50 bucks each but some of these fish from the same batch can be sold for triple the amount now by other hobbyists.. that's here in the philippines i dunno the going rate there in the u.s....

Great progression thread. They look amazing. Red below the cheeck is start to pop. Can't wait to see it bigger.

This is the fella in question. Got him as a mono but I see a 4th bar behind the 3rd.

wow he is gorgeous! It could definitely be a pleiozona as well based on the fourth bar..but more info can also be helpful... When you purchased him what was his size and what was the label? Is the fish wild caught? A few months back i also purchased a captive bred monoc with four bars (which are more frequent nowadays) just to see if my pleiozonas are different from the mono, although it had a fourth bar at around 4 inches, the colors and the pattern were really different. my pleiozonas have had their brilliant yellow colors and spangles since i purchased them if you can see the first couple of stages again. monocs on the other hand have a somewhat dull yellow color until they reach a decent size. im not sure as well but i am noticing two different characteristics with these pleiozonas. first are its scales. its much bigger than monoculus at the same size. second is my fish tend to grow lengthwise more than height-wise, that is what is different between them and my monoculus.. just my observation though. nice fish nonetheless torphaine! hopefully u have a pleiozona:) this is the monoc 4bars i took a pic when it was growing. from dull to alittle more color when it grew. colors are not as intense as the pleiozonas though, scales are smaller, and he is growing more on height than length.

i agree, this fella that i have posted, he has bigger scales than that of my mono. i got him when he is 13inches as a mono, back then he wasn't very stable and not showing much of a 4th bar and the colour was all over the place. now, the yellow on him is intense, more towards the kelberi's side than the mono's greenish side.

Yeah i can see his colors are really deep bro! Where exactly did you get them? I think i remember in another sinapore forum there were some pleiozonas that have made it to sing. Were there talks about pleiozonas in your community in the past year or so?

No idea at all. This was the piece I took from my regular fish importer/LFS. Said the ex owner wanted to dump it into the drainage system. He told me he had no idea what's the origin of this piece, and I always had the impression that it was caught in 1 of the reservoirs in Singapore.
