still not done?

Haha nowhere near. I'm an indecisive perfectionist with a tendency to procrastinate.

And now I've hit another snag; the tank is about 2/3 full, and it turns out that the rough sawn timber is nowhere near as accurately gaughed as I thought it was. There is about a 3mm gap between the poly and the timber all along the right hand end and around the back corner for about 20cm. I can fit a snap-off blade between the floor and the bottom of the stand all the way along the front, so it looks like most of the weight is resting on the middle joists. I'm not going to fill it any more, I'll leave it for a few days to see if the poly crushes any more while I weigh up my options, but I doubt it will.

I'm going to get a price for a steel stand, I'm really kicking myself for being a tight-*** and not getting a steel one right from the start.
The other option is to make another timber stand of the same design, but have a wood worker run all the timber through a thicknesser so that it is all exactly the same height.

It sucks as I really wanted to get it filled and have the sump running this week, but its not going to happen. I'm not going to risk the tank and fish on an uneven stand.

aww man that sucks about your stand! i hope you get everything worked out...

was the floor level? and was the base level when you first built it?

I'd suggest that the builder you mentioned was correct and the poly will settle, however in my experience I would have chosen to put a bit of 4 ply plywood under the poly to allow some extra movement in there.

Great setup though! makes my 425L tank look like a tonka truck vs the real thing :)

The floor is fairly level, the steel stand which has six "feet" only needed a couple of 2-3mm shims, I think the big problem was using rough sawn timber instead of gauged. I put 17mm ply on the steel stand and it is all good, although I think the poly might be slightly uneven in thickness as the front left corner is a little loose between the tank and the ply. Hopefully as I fill the tank it will compress.

I'll get some pics up this afternoon, tank is on the stand and I'm gradually filling it to allow it time to settle. Should have the sump up and running by the end of the week!!!

Will probably put a fascia in front of the steel stand to match the hood I'm going to build. Tomorrow I'll make the stand for the sump, and cut the hole in the wall, plumbing should be done on Thursday, running by friday!
