David R's 370g thread...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice new stand, very clean. I like it allot. I wish I would have done that for my 300 instead the 2"x6" I build. Looks sooo clean. ;)

Yeah it does look good, I might just put some black tape around the front to cover the ply and poly and leave it at that, unless it looks too top heavy being open underneath with the hood on top.

Fairly productive weekend, just changed all the water in the 1400L and will top it off with 300L from my 210g (trying to use as much old water as possible while soaking the background to save money!) and start running the sump tomorrow.

Measure three times, cut once! The black marking are from when the tank was on the old stand, but I cocked the vertical measurement up and cut the hole about 100mm too high, lucky it was only the garage side of the wall.

Really looking forward to getting fish in it, I'm seeding as much of the media as possible in my current tanks, and still need to wash about 75kg of sand, not fun in water when the water coming out of the hose is freezing cold!
The next big mission is designing a hood and deciding on what kind of lighting to use. As there won't be any plants I'll probably just go for four T5 tubes (not sure what kind?) spread out to evenly light the whole tank.

thats not just a big sweet tank, its impressive, to say the least. do you have to support your floor? or does your room have a concrete slab floor? how come i never see anyone on here having to support their floor for these monster aquariums?

Yeah its on a concrete slab. When we were looking for a house to buy that was a must, luckily we found one with a concrete floored garage with a sleepout [aka fish room!] on the back!

Hannah is a good lass, you struck gold with that lady Dave!!
Also good to see some really good progress being made, hopefully you will be in Auckland when I travel through around Christmas time..... I will stop in with my girl for a looksie, and to let her stretch her legs a little...... its a long drive for a girl her age!!

Hi David,

Are you able to share the material specs on uour stand- I.e the dimentions of the box and over all structural dimentions? I have an identical foot-print tank that i need to assemble a stand for and am in the process of arranging for a fabricator to knock it together. I originally wanted to use the ladder design you had previously opted for but having thought about it, a decent mildsteel stand will look cleaner and last longer.

Thanks.

Very impressive build by the way!

Awesome thread showcasing an outstanding tank. These are the kind of threads that my wife hates, because I read them and it inspires me to get that next larger tank... It was a pleasure to read about your project. Great job!
