Chances are it couldnt. Even being in mid texas it still got down to about 25 F this year. I could get a few spotted gar though that could survive.

I had two gator gar at one time in my 700. They grew from a foot to three feet in about 8 months. I ended up giving them to a cabelas near me with a 35,000 gallon aquarium. I want my koi to breed and with predators in there that just wont happen.

if you want your koi to breed you will need another pond to do the breeding and grow the fry, koi lay their eggs at around 6-7 Am and after that, they will eat the eggs if you don't tank the parents out. Other female koi can go after and eat the eggs right after they come out too!

The Backside of the pond is going to be very planted so Im hoping some survive back there.
planted or not its a very low chance of survive, Koi and carp been famous for the eating plant problem. During the spawning season, female koi and carp eat a lot more plant than usual. I remember my pond was completely full of under water plants and floating plants, but after the koi came in, the plant slowly disappear even when I feed them a lot. After a few weeks, my 200 gallon tank almost have no plants in it, they ate the root of floating plants make them can grow and reproduce and then die!
Big koi can have one more problem, female koi could swallow small fishes swim near their mouth when they are eating. when the fry grow up a bit they will come up to eat when you feed the whole pond and could be swallow by big koi!
I breed koi before and I see koi spawning in pond a lot of time, their is almost no chance of survivor. Unless you got a freaking huge lake and a few koi, in the wild, carp usually go up the river or find some place that big fish can't get in to lay their eggs. the fry will eat the moss and algae to grow and join the bigger fish when they get big enough!

you can make a shallow part in the pond with lots of plant for the fry to grow in 1 or 2 weeks after they hatch, then you can take them out to a grow out tank or pond. But it still very low chance of survivor even if you have gator gar in there or not.
gator gar will grow pass 3 feet very fast so they will not be able to enter the fry area!
