DIY 55 gallon sump - Need help!

Could you post pics of where the water enters the sump?

Sorry for not explaining it well enough. I didn't notice the stand frame blocks the complete view by a few inches in the pic.

The water come in on the left hand side of the sump, from the top. It's the white PVC that is just behind the heater controllers. The drain line comes down then has two 90s then into the sump. I just reused the pumbing that came with the tank when I bought it, and as I get the flow I needed, I never did change it. A straight(er) drain line from the tank into the sump would be best.

I'll try to get a better pic latter tonight for you

I almost forgot I had this pic from when I was orginally settting up the tank (before I up-graded my sump to a 55 gallon). You can see the drain line better in this pic

Ok I see. It's not threaded or anything, it just sits deep in there. I am going to use a 30 gallon but try to make a similar model.

I used all glued fittings. But that's just my presonal preferance as that's how I learned to install drainage lines. You could use all threaded fittings if you wanted. Both work just fine.

The drain line is well below the water line in the sump so to keep the noise low

Nice sump, and nice 2x4 stand.

Cant wait to get pictures up of the finished 125g product...we are hopefully less than a week away from that.

I should be putting on the second coat of seal instead of answering online questions! :D

If your going to use a 30 gallon, just double check to make sure your skimmer and any other equipment will fit in there before you get started. It's only a 12" wide tank which is a really tight fit for some skimmers. I find my 55 gallon at 13" wide a tight fit for my Vertex IN180 skimmer

I agree glued fittings. I was referring to how it is secured in the sump. This was one of my main concerns in making one.

Will make sure everything fits first. I think the skimmer is only 9" wide with pump.

OK, now I understand the question. Please be patient with me as english is not my first language.

The drain line is not attached to any part of my sump. It just "hangs" there. I didn't see a need to try to attach it. IMO, that would be just another contact point to create more noise from vibration. I like a really quite system.

I gotta say wow to how clean that sump is Cliff. How long has it been up and running?

The pic was taken just after I had it set-up and running, maybe a week. I wish it still looked that clean after a few months now :(
