*tips his hat to RD* Science (and the testing that goes with it) is a wonderful thing. Even the tests that go wrong give useful information that can be used to make the next test the most successful yet.
I do supplement the pellets I feed, but mainly because when I feed live I notice my fish color up better and seem to enjoy going after their food more. So, I supplement some occasional worms or crickets that were grown specifically for feed purposes. These to my SA/CA cichlids, not my herbivores.
