Finally got it in the tank and going. Started up pretty easy. It is virtually silent as well. I have also discovered that the increased pipe size (2") seems to suck off the surface better even though it doesn't have any more volume than a 1" pipe.
What do you think the flow capacity is? I just build a DIY sump and I might need to steal this idea for the sump and I'm wondering if this will keep up with a mag 12?
I would say that it should be around 600gph, same as any 1" overflow. I'm running a tetra 1200 from lowes on this one and a standard 3/4" one I did. However my plumbing is a little jacked up at the moment and I have some other changes to make before I see the full capacity of this thing.
I plan on making a second one or I have another idea floating around my head that I may do. Total cost was about $35 but I have enough pipe left over for a second one and one or two extra fittings as well.
sweet .. i really want to build this .. and steal your design .. so i might ask a few more questions .. but i plan on having one of these in my tank soon
No problem. Here's some calculations if you want to do different sized pipe. Basically I wanted to make sure that the area left in the outer pipe was at least as much as the inner pipe.
