That's an interesting idea. Yes, I think it would work as long as the outer loop is filled first.

i have been thinking about doing that. But never got round to it. Have you done it yet?

i made an overflow out of 1.5" PVC, but im having a horrible time priming it...
i hooked it up the venturi from my powerhead and it flows like a beast but as soon as i disconnect it from the suction it stops completely...
any ideas or thoughts on this?

actually that was it, didnt think i NEEDED a check valve
but i finally figured out that thats why the thing wasnt priming, i just had a hole there and air kept gettin back in...

got one, and this 1.5" PVC flows just an insane amount of water... had a 600 gph pump flowing into the tank while i was trying to prime it, and i got it primed right before the tank overflowed... the water was down to the normal level in only a few seconds while the pump was still going...amazing
