DIY Stand & Canopy With Plans.

Thanks for the compliments.

As for the cost, I have $625 in it. If I had not used oak and maybe poplar or some other clear wood species like a clear pine I could have saved about a $150 I guess. the doors were I HUGH savings from the place I linked to, my own cabinet shop wanted well more then I gave and I build several homes a year with them?

As for the wife she was doing the checking account online and she asked me "Did you really pay $245 for rocks?....lol

Dez what fish is that in your signature? Im setting this up with Africans.

Excellent craftmanship.....good man, you used oak!

Can't wait to see the finished product and lots of happy fish!

Lantz, Dude.. I just saw a guy that could be your twin. Any relatives in NY state?

Will the canopy be flush with the ceiling? (ala crown moulding)
lol, I get that all the time but yes we have relatives in NY.

This is going in a greatroom that has 20' ceilings so no it wont be flush.

is there a rule of thumb as to how tall he canopy has to be in relation to the stand? lets say the stand was 28"tall. How tall does the canopy have to be? because i know if it's to tall it would look dumb lol.

"Rule of thumb" not that Im aware of. I guess it would look "dumb" in a old house with 8' ceilings. thanks for asking...........
The stand is 36" tall and I have 15" doors on the canopy to allow room for everything to be loaded and unloaded through the doors without removing the canopy. as stated above it will be in proportion to the room its going into that has 20' ceilings. all the custom stands and canopy's that I looked at built by cabinet shops had large canopy's with large crown molding, I reduced the size of the crown some and put 3" larger doors.

I put the project on hold for a week.
My mom had a mild heart attack a week ago they found 5 arteries clogged so they did bypass surgery the next day, amazingly she came home yesterday! I am still amazed how fast they had her walking (next day) then discharged.
