I did the math now that the insulation is in. I broke it into two squares so it was easy to come up with total gallons. It would be as follows.

27" = 407g
28" = 423g
29" = 437g
30" = 452g
31" = 468g
32" = 482g

I decided to do about 28.5", so it will end up around 430g.

It's hard to explain the way I am going to do the over flow for the drip so I'll just post pics when it's done. I need to get wood first but it's basically cutting the top rail and putting in shorter support beams then screw the top piece back in. Then putting two full length support beams on either side of that. That will create a low spot, I'll then let the liner go over the edge and into a funnel. So it will drip 2gph on on end and slowly overflow out the other. It will all get trimmed out and hidden by rocks eventually.

I am also going to spray foam around the seams and make some small structure on the bottom. It was a last minute idea but I think it will help make the inside foam a more solid structure and seal any gaps up.

Massivore bag for size reference.

You can also see the height marks. Click to enlarge.

Nice! Can't wait to see this up and running. I'm sure your fish will appreciate the larger space a lot. I'm hoping to build a large pond or tank once I get a house with a basement...

Thanks, I can't wait to get it running myself.

Here is a crappy phone cam shot I took as I was walking out the door today. I emptied two cans of spray foam last night to make some structure on the bottom and seal together the small pieces of foam on the bottom. I am going to go over it with Duct Tape so it's a smooth surface for the liner to sit on. The cans didn't last as long as I thought so there isn't a bunch of bottom structure but I don't feel like buying more. So the small hump in the middle will be enough. I have plenty of driftwood and stuff for inside anyway.

Tonight I am building the overflow portion then dropping the liner in. I'll have updated photos later on with some progress hopefully.

quick work. look forward to seeing it full.

looks good to me. also i think its good to see soemone not go crazy with overbuilding it.

problem is you see one built and think if i make it stronger than that im safe...
that mentality keeps on going till you have an air raid shelter tank lol.

not dissing the overbuilt tanks becuase they are a work of art in themselves.

good luck mate cosider me subscribed.

Man that is looking good so far can't wait to see it finished. How hard is it to build? because I would love to build one my self
It's not really hard. You just need a saw and a drill as far as tools go. Get all your measurements, cut the wood, screw it together, and that is about it. It does take some time but it's not hard work at all.

Thanks for the comments. I agree with what you said.

I looked at all the builds I could before I did mine and based mine loosely on what I saw. It is a little more solid than some and much more basic compared to others but I think it will do the trick.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't get much of anything done last night. I have to work late tonight but still hope to get something accomplished when I get home. Hopefully I'll have an update to share with everyone later. :D

Corgi Helper. (and to gauge the size of the pond, she is a 30lb dog)

Top Brace on the wide end.

Overflow on the corner for drip system, I know it's not even. It will get lined with rocks anyway. I kind of did it on purpose too so the low spot is narrow.

More tape needed...

Added all these braces, when I cut the top for the overflow it was flimsy as hell up top, obviously. So I added all these and it's good now. I am still adding a brace over the liner once it goes it that will span the entire length and pass over the overflow. So it will be plenty sturdy. Then a brace will go down the center over the liner too to prevent bowing as stated earlier.

Obligatory Nikon Strap Shot... and the overflow

So just some more duct tape over spots then vacuum then the liner goes in and it gets partially filled then in go the last braces. :headbang2
