I believe member GarNiac has some in with BD stingrays and sturgeons in a massive tank and he has a pond for them after too. From what I've read food goes right through them and they swim constantly like sharks.

You do know they get over 200 pounds, and 8+ feet long right? Not a fish for a tank. You would need a lake (minimum, a pond is not enough) eventually for them.

There's some in the rock quaries around here in Indiana. They scare the crud out of the people that scuba-dive there hhaha.

I did read this, however:
http://scienceforums.com/blog/40/entry-291-paddlefish-in-the-home-aquarium/

It discusses dinks. These are paddlefish from breeders that don't grow very large. This guy successfully kept a few in a 55 gallon tank.

Quite interesting. I'd be interested to see if you could get ahold of some and keep them in a normal sized tank. It seems as though some of them just never grow beyond 10".

^I dont buy that.

American Paddlefish are very difficult to keep in captivity. They grow very large and need room to swim constantly, are filter feeders as adults, and are very sensitive to stress.

I have no reason to question it. They've been a fish that's known to have dwarf offspring. He also has a video in that link. There's also been some MFK members keep dink's in the past to varying levels of success.

But they are a very dificult fish to keep alive regardless if you have a dwarf or a normal paddlefish. Filter feeders are not for the inexperienced.

And even if it is a dwarf tha tonly gets to 10", I'd still want to put them in a kiddie pool or something of the sort. They seem like they constantly swim, and they aren't very flexible to turn around in a standard rectangle tank and they could damage their paddle.

dwarf offspring to me just another term of a shrunk fish. keep it in a small tank eventually it will stay small regardless but when given the proper food and space eventually it will get just as big as any adults. plus since they are going to be pet fish the quality of food and constant food source paddlefish going to need since they feed constantly, they will bump up in size quicker than those out in the wild
