Why not cat food ?
seems to me fish flavor/ingridents would be closer to fishz liking.
I wouldn't just to be safe.

I've been recently using a "premium" tinned catfood (you know, the ones that come in the little single serve tins for spoiled kittys) to make up part of the diet of my tropical tank, the fact that my normally incredibly fussy archers (who ,at best, miserably pick at dry food) wolf this stuff down untill they bulge seals the deal for me.

note; this particular food quickly breaks up into tiny peices, perfect for my community tank, but probably not suitable for larger, messier monsters.

can u buy pure colore enhancing ingreedients and sprinkle it over your dog food.

Pure Color Enhancing? LFS that item? Ill look tonight and see what i can find. Guess it wont hurt to add it to the dog food.

Oh and who here Still feed Monster fish smaller pellets? Mine are starting not to like the smaller ones and loving the Big peace of dog food. Is this normal for a big fish to eat bigger pellets?

Personally, I wouldn't do it. Dog food is made far to differently from fish food. Their digestive systems aren't even close to similar. You are setting yourself up for problems.

Look at it this way. Would you eat dog food as a staple? I mean if you are going to say the ingredients look ok for fish, they are the same ingredients that humans take in right? So why not?

Fish food for fish.
when i was younger i used to eat cat food i'd eat it like it was pop corn and i've tried dog food both wet and dry i maintane that i will never give my pets anything that i haven't eaten myself or that i atleast wouldn't try myself:D

Just to put my opinion in here. I have two big ponds with lots of cichlids and catfish and pacu and everything. If I bought fish food from the LFS I would have went in the hole a long time ago. I go to my local feed store and have them order Aquamax Carnivorous Fish Food. It comes in 50lb bags and I pay right at about 30 bucks for it. 50lbs of fish food is a lot of food. Im still using the same bag I bought back in the middle of summer and I feed all my fish very heavy. I dont have a head count on my ponds, but I would say I have at least 75 fish that range from 1 inch to 2 feet and they get fed Aquamax three times a day. Just as cheap as dogfood and much better for them.

Listen......look at the ingredients on the fish food them look at them on the dog food. Do they compare at all?

I don't even believe in feeding most dog food to dogs. The pet food industry was created mid 20th century as a way for big corporations to make money off of GRAIN (stuff that is not part of a dogs natural diet) that had expired for human consumption. The entire rest of the time dogs have been domesticated they have eaten what we ate. Unfortunately our typical diets have diverged so far from ideal (read: fatty foods) that this is a good way to give your dog pancreatis, obesity and diabetes. The pet food industry has thrived simply because their product is cheap and won't outright kill your dog (in most cases- we all remember what happened last Spring) but it's not ideal nutrition- no more than it would be for a human. That being said, some companies make adequate dried dog food that is closer to ideal than junk like, say, Purina/Iams/Science Diet. But these foods are, in most cases, expensive and not available outside boutiques and organic grocery stores.

Unless you are feeding your fish pounds of food each week, in which case I'd suggest looking into what professional aquariums feed their fish, this idea is ridiculous. Anyone who has been in this hobby long knows that when it comes to happy, healthy, thriving fish there is a huge difference between "what works" and what is ideal.

My dogs get Iams lamb and rice. It seems like it would foul the water when it gets wet.
I will feed it to the pond fish. Koi, sunfish, bullheads, and channel cats. I normally feed Koi food to the pond, but the store where I can get 50 lbs bags of it is about an hour away and I only make it down there on occasion, and sometimes run out before I can get another 2 bags.

Food for thought & fish... http://www.aquamaxfishfeed.com/

Click on products.

(Expanding on WJCO5's input)
obviously this stuff is WAY more cost effective than massivore delite...my question is, IMO hikari makes the best fish food I've tried, is this stuff still going to be good (I know it won't be as good as hikari, but is it still good)? What kind of growth rates will you see on your catfish, and will they still be just as healthy?
