Hi everyone,

i’ve had this driftwood for 6-12 months and I recently had to move out a pleco for sucking the slime coat off my endli. Since then i have seen the white fuzz come back fully.Over the past few months i have tried to move the pleco out previously but the white fuzz always came back. I’m not to sure what i can do. Water is tests out great, only thing i could think of would be dosing bioclean per the probiotics thread. Water is a blue crystal clear and I don’t overfeed. Tank is an 8’ x30” deep x24” tall 300 gallon with sump.

I wouldn’t worry. I have a similar one. Every weekend during water change, I scrub most of the fuzz with an old toothbrush, followed by regular vacuuming of what I need out. No big deal, not toxic. Takes 1-2 minutes to scrub. Over time, it doesn’t come back.

Although unsightly, the fungus is temporary & harmless. Some keepers
use snails to eat the fuzz.

I believe bichirs have been known to eat snails.
I have a similar problem, in the form of a redeye puffer which would eat any snails I put in there

Don't worry S SuperNinja , fungus grows on newly established drift wood, it happens to everyone!
But in your case, your driftwood must have excess nutrients that's currently being broken down by the fungi. Once the fungi have broken the organic matter they will slowly die of due to
starvation.

I hope it’s soon this has been a battle for about 6 months. Do you think the Bioclean i add to the water could have an effect?

Well its designed too, but try not adding it as the fungus will control its growth and die of eventually.
MY opinion is, not add the bioclean as it may stop the fungi from growing more, but that means the fungi doesn't need to supply large amounts of food to itself, so its prolonging its lifespan of the fungus.

if your looking for a short tern fix, you can take the wood out, scrub it and boil it again. That should stop the fungus from comming back short term but maybe long term if you scrub all then nutrients off the wood.

Years ago I had the stuff seemingly just pop up out of nowhere on an old piece that I've had for a long time.I hated it so I removed the wood, scrubbed and dried it and the stuff reappeared shortly after I returned it to the tank.
I no longer use that piece for decoration in any of my tanks.
