Drilling Tanks

Can I use a dremmel with a dimond bit to cut a hole in glass?

It can be done, but like Dr. Joe said you need the right tool.

A Dremel tool will drill a small hole and then you will have to enlarge it. It takes about five minutes to just drill through the glass. To widen the hole with a dremel will probably excede an hour. Eye protection is a must because even with water, a dremel throws water and glass dust everywhere.

A very small one...:D

Bigger holes need bigger tools.

And don't ANYBODY GO THERE, I know what your thinking CHOMPERS etc. this is a family show.

And I was about to post a pic of my cucumber...

I put it in my fish tanks. My fish love my cucumber.

ur supposed to use a diamond bit to drill glass, a friend of mine got his glass tank drilled by a friend he knew and he uses a diamond bit.

You can use a dremel, but use it at the lowest setting! The bigger the bit is the faster the rpm, and when we had tanks drilled at work, they operated the drill at only 1000 rpms. A dremels bit is usually only 1/8" where the bit used at 1000 rpm was 2"... I would not do it with a dremel, even with the most patience your chances of breaking the wall of the tank go up at least 200%. Dremels are very fast, and easily get away from you, one mistake and you may be out one tank, hopefully nothing more. I would just take it to the local glass shop, and have them drill it. It only costs $7 around here to have any size tank drilled, for $20 they will replace it if they break it. Great deal there...

Only seven bucks? Dang, and I was going to offer my services locally. :(

This is the secret stash! They are the Hong Kong dealer that I got my tools from. They are dirt cheap and they actually do mail what you pay for.

bulkhead___hole ______bit_______cost___shipping
3/4"-------1 1/2"--------40mm------$4.50-----$4.00
1"---------1 3/4"--------48mm------$5.80-----$4.00
1 1/2-----2 1/2"--------65mm------$7.50-----$6.00

By the way, I bought the bulkheads from a dealer known as Petscentral. I got boned in the end. I am looking into buying direct from Lifegard now.

Chompers,
how many holes you think you can do with one of those drill bits. I need to drill 28 20gallons with a 1 3/4 hole. Do you think I would be ok by ordering 2 bits?

Thank you
