Confusing a earthworm with planaria is pretty far off if you ask me...........

No, it's because the moisture draws them out from underground and then they dry up.

I took some pictures but the worms are to small in diameter to be able to see in the pics. I can see some that are atleast two inches long but only as thick as about a 1/3 of the thickness of mechanical pencil lead. If I can get some pics to turn out I will post them because there is a cluster of about 20 small worms that are sticking out of the gravel about 1/2 inch and they are waving back and forth. They go down when a crawdad goes over them, but they come right back and start waving again. It's kind of weird. Oh well, that's it for now.

Maybe you're confusing earthworms with other organisms, like, planaria?

I don't know if they are planaria, but i do know i have never fed my fish earthworms. If i slack off and get careless with the canister, i get lil white "worms" that start clustering on my glass. I asked some of the LFS MFK'ers and they said they are kind of a warning sign for when there is to much overfeeding, and waste in the filters or substrate.
Everytime I have seen these, they go away when i clean the filters.

I'm not confusing them with planaria. I'm 99% sure they are earth worms. I went and dug some worms up in my back yard to feed to the fish and I found baby worms that were just a little bit bigger then the ones in my tank, and the look the same. The ones in the tank look skinnier, but I think they are either just younger or they are stretched out more, but they really do look the same. It's a strange situation.

worms only last a couple minutes in my tank. My fire eel makes sure of that
