Nice looking tank, Sam! There are actually two of those for sale around here, and if either had a canopy there's a really good chance I'd have picked it up for an upgrade to my African tank. I love those glass bowfronts.

Sad news about Mr. Wag. I am sure he's living it up in fish hell now and having a blast.

Justin, is 30" the max that DBN is doing or do you think they have plans for even taller builds? I'm sure they'd be so low-demand that it'd either not be worth it or would cost a fortune...

Here's a totally unrelated question for you guys, since you all seem to be masters of finding good deals on used tanks and your pricing market seems similar to mine... how much cash would you offer, in addition to a 86x24x24 220g acrylic (clear BG), for a 84x24x35 (tall, blue bg and center overflow)?

There's someone selling his reef tank setup with that tank and all other parts for $2500 and not getting any takers. I want a tall tank for a certain application and want to see if he'll trade me and then just sell his setup as a 220 reef instead. Unlikely, but worth a shot. No idea what it'd be worth though. I hate blue backgrounds and center overflows (have one already) but it's really hard to find a tall 7 foot tank.

wow that is one complicated looking pipe job on that tank lol
Yeah. There are 11 holes total. Oceanic systems are definitely for the serious reefers or "freshwater sumpers", But not complicated at all. Passage ways for 3 out from internal overflow and many choices, or all to go back in. In short, unless you want to plug, get prepared to use a sump or wet dry..... Project projected to start in a couple weeks.

As this is my first attempt at a very large, to me at least set up. Let this thread originated from JK47; 300 gallon 3D Build inspire those only with a 75 gallon or less and not sure on wanting to commit to a monster. Soak in all the good ideas from this thread and git r done.....

No I haven't. I am pending info from my company and may be moving, so any new tanks or BG's are on hold ATM.

I went back and checked the DBN website (ordered my background late last week), and there were a few new ones that I really liked, but still out of my price range, so I probably wouldn't have bought anything differently.

I just finished building the stand (frame) for my new 100g tank that's getting the background, so hopefully I'll be starting my own build thread sometime this week.

Since this thread has lots of DBN and lighting info I thought I'd chime in with my latest. Just got the fish in the water today.

Tank is 100g. 60" x 18" x 20" high. Lighting is 2 24" Marineland Doublebright LEDs. Substrate is PFS from Leslies.

I went with a flat back 3" deep background that is flush mounted to the back glass. I debated a bigger background or one with cavities behind it but I didn't want to give up too much space in the tank. So I'm running a Hydor inline ETH heater and I sprayed my plumbing to match the background. Krylon Fusion black covered with a light coat of Krylon Fusion espresso (one of my tubes needs a touch more of the espresso)

To cut the background I scored the back and snapped it. I had to cut it into 3 pieces to fit it around my center brace. I then just used DAP 100% silicone to glue it to the back and I used a very thin bead along the sides as well. I know some people put sand in their seams but with this dark brown background I just left it plain black.

Now I have to work on pimping out the area under the stand. Picked up some shelving today :naughty:

Oh and I'm supposed to have 6 other live plants in the tank but the shipper slapped the shipping label on the wrong box. I'll have the corrected shipment early next week. So just imagine a few more plants and about 8 nerite snails cruising around too.

Justin, hope your work situation gets resolved for the best.
