How much epsom salts per gallon, just for a bath soak? How long do in there, and how often?

I have to use a bucket.
one of my adult tapajos redheads' belly is bloated up really fat. only other symptom is with each breath, it sucks water in through it's mouth too, as if it's swollen abdomen hurts. swimming ok, but slower like a Blimp.
nothing new in tank for contaminants. I did FD feed more krill this week. could that constipate a fish ? I'm not sure if it is, but very bloated.
normally is fed nls with smaller amounts of frozen & FD krill than this week :-/
all other fish are fine.

Forget the "feed it epsom soaked food" and/or peas advice for this one.

In 5 gallon bucket fill it water from your aquarium, add 1 tablespoon Epsom salts per gallon. Put the fish in this solution for 15 to 25 mins once feces are released return to main tank. If fish show signs of distress (ie goes belly up) remove immediatly. GL

Tom,
No feces passing with bucket soaking.
No stressing,.. so far.
I put bubbler in the bucket.

I was only guessing this fish might be constipated from scarfing FD krill like a hog. some fish did, not sure if this is one.
all others are fine.
is there a different condition that makes fish abdomen bloat up like a blimp? first it just looked too full, but continues getting fatter.

If no feces pass should I increase the length of soak... or set up a temporary tank with a different dose, full time?
It's still hard to catch this thing in the 180. He swims less & slower until the net gets close then he can still dart & jump.
Don't know if it's male or female. (hard to keep track of who's who when theyr'e not spawning. I wondered if fish can get eggbound. some Geos almost spawned recently but didn't, tank is more crowded with juvi growouts.
?

I wouldn't leave it longer than 30 mins. you can repete this in 24 hours. Several things can cause this and yes egg binding is one of them along with bacterial infections, IPs etc. For a longer term epsome salt bath do 1 tablespoon per five gallons in a QT tank. Replace salt as removed by water changes. It can stay in this concentration for days with no issue. Can you get it to eat a skinned pea?

NOTHING has been introduced to tank, so IPs is out.
bacterial infection.... if all other fish healthy? even this one has no other signs.

no way it'll eat a pea.
If i set up a temp tank, could try epsom soaked frozen bloodworms IF absolutely needed. they're the hardest to resist.
but I'm not thrilled about adding to his swollen gut now.

I was just saying what other things could cause bloating like that i wasn't suggesting it was any of those things. a bacterial infection can come from within and may not effect any other fish just an FYI. Egg binding is a posibilty usually they will just be reabsorbed. Bacteria that is normal gut flora can grow into an issue if the internal ph is thrown out of whack for some reason. You could try soaking the blood worms in garlic juice but I agree you should wate a couple of days and see what devlopes. Set up the QT with the lower concentration of ES for now.

well I asked you for other conditions, was just responding to that input, to get more input :-)

You have the right man for the Job helping you for sure. Id agree with everything Toms said so far. I do have a quick question. Is there any buoyancy issues? Or does the fish settle at the bottom?

Ive also seen individual fish that are hit with bacterial issues and no other fish touched.

what would you use for internal bacterial infection? in case I have to get meds.
