Finally a Tile Bottom

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
what size is the tank and how many rays i can see lots of eyes in the dark pic :)

This tank is 200 gallon with a foot print of 6 feet by 27 inch and at the time there was 6 rays under 8 inch. I keep my smaller rays in there until they get too big. Currently there are 5 rays in this tank and the tile bottom is gone and replaced by pool filter sand.

I'm a substrate man but have to say the natural coloured tile does have a certain appeal.
Looks good!!
Rays look very nice too.

From your pictures .... these look like "polished" granite tiles. Your rays seem healthy but there is other threads suggesting against polished tiles. I like the polished/clean look and I just bought some polished black granite tiles and i'm planning to do a similar tiled aquarium bottom. I'm just wondering since there is a sealer added to the tiles , if you experienced any fish death.

Thanks all info welcome.

I had these tiles in the tank for over a year with no issues. They do not put a sealer on granite tiles. They might add a sealer after they are laid in a house but not new in the box. They are just polished. I cleaned them really well with some white vinegar then rinsed them really well.

may sound wierd or overly cautious but anyone ever think of the water underneath the tiles being stag or collecting debris under there?

good point personally sand or small gravel not only looks more natural but also provides yet more places for BB's and places for the fish to feel more comfortable....

I had a tank with ceramic tiles and a this tank with granite. The granite tiles are flat backed so no debris would get under them. They fit tight together so no worries. The ceramic on the other hand collected all kinds of stuff. I would use silicone if I ever used ceramic again.
