Fluval FX6 enough to filter 180 gallon?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I run an FX5 on my 180 and it does pretty well.

It's a wet dry filter... Nothing special and in no way can it push more water then the fx6...

Sure it can this guys talking 5 feet of trickle. IDK about you but I have a 1 foot trickle box and I can run 1600+ gph through it. I think you are confusing pressure vs flow.

FX6 is rated at 900gph but it only allows for some odd 600gph of pass through the media rest of it is bypass.
a trickle box is not going to have much pressure because its gravity operated, but you can sure as heck push as much gph through it as you want as you can determine the dwell time with the amount of holes to make for water to flow.

I feel like the fx6 isn't as strong. Or am I not seeing it.

Would like to add in another filtration system.

I don't like the idea of a sump, however I saw this DIY

Better off getting HOB instead?

Are you looking for more mechanical filtration or just more water current?

If its just current, then add some powerheads.

If you want more mech filtration, then I highly recommend this

I believe both current and mech. My plecos are making a mess left and right on bare bottom.

I'll buy a powerhead in the mean time, however..I'll keep in mind with that canister.

But I'm leaning towards a DIY. Since I already bought a 1200gph pump.

I don't have time to watch the sump, since my tank is an outdoor. My friend garage caught on fire when he just installed an additional sump. Not sure what caused it. Overflow cannot be done since water evaporates fast here.

Whats the stock in the tank? Single large fish you may be ok, several probably not.

Jardini, plecos, flowerhorn, some assorted african chics, and weeskii bichir. Their all small, so its a grow out tank.
