Fly Fishing thread

just thought Id bump this post

I can't wait to get fishing this spring as for christmas I got an orvis clearwater II 7' rod, man its dreamy so light and the brookies will be amazing on it
and to top it all off I got an orvis battenkill bar stock reel
its a crazy reel, balance the rod to perfection

I CANT WAIT TILL SPRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just practiced casted outside with the new fly rod and it was magical, pure heaven
then I went to the tackle shop and looked at flies, soo many new ones, I'll have to find some shrimp ones for those early spring sea trout

tell ya what, i couldnt tell ya the last time i fished without a fly rod. They make everything fun. you should try carp and gar on a fly rod, its mind blowing.

I am new to fly fishing only caught a couple fish doing it and i have no clue what u meen by 5 wt and 6 wt
could someone fill me in

5wt and 6 wt are different weights of rod for throwing the respective line weight. They go from 00 to 13. I have a 3, 2 5's and an 8. The 3 i use in little trout streams, 5s are for trout and small ponds/medium sized creeks, and the 8 is for when i go chase big fish, like carp, muskie and pike.

I go after carp with my 2. Man what a blast that is! Seriously though, I fish for shark and tuna with a 9 weight, what do you need an 8 weight for carp and muskies for? I'm not trying to be insulting, I'm Bipolar, so sometimes I don't know when I am, I just don't see the need for such heavy gear. Doesn't the heavy line weight scare the carp off? I used to fish with a 6 weight for everything, because thats all I had. I caught everything from bluegill to 15 lb bluefish on that thing. Now, my son is using it to learn to fly fish. He loves casting it in the yard, especially if I let him cast the spey rod!

BUMP

had an awesome summer fly fishing except my new rod broke twice, but orvis is great and is giving me a new rod that is 8.5` and 2 pieces rather than 4 pieces and 7`
but trout season is over and my biggest was a 19 inch brookie and now Im off to catch salmon, already hooked a grilse the other day but I am really hoping to land one in the next month, then the I wait until april
