Freshwater sponges

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have some in my madtom tank, they hitched a ride on some feeder crayfish, They seem to really be growing on my rocks that have the most water flow over them, Fish seem to stay away from them but then again they are madtoms. The colonies i have are about a 1/4 inch in lenght look like little corals.

want to post pics?

I will see what i can do, these things are small and might be hard to take a pic of. There is also some snails that hitched in as well, not to sure what those are either, they are real small as well and never get any bigger. I will try to get some pics of stuff this weekend.

You should also do a forum search in this forum, this subject has come up before and I believe I posted some pictures. Most FW sponges are small and encrusting, mainly between or under rocks, but a few are more interesting.
Eh, nevermind I bumped it so you won't have to do a search, try second page for pics.

Will these usually die when removed from the water like SW sponges?
