Freshwater Stonefish AKA Freshwater Lionfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This thread was to figure out what these fish required and if you could keep one or not. Well you've gotten your answers from someone who owns these fish and knows much more about them than you do; no you cannot keep these fish.
If you can find the species shown earlier in this thread that is a true freshwater fish, then that's another story. But the one that you're interested in simply isn't going to work

No, this thread was inquiring about this fish's venom, compatibility with Oscar's, and their feeding habits.
YOU think it won't work, however the experiences of many people beg to differ with your, and I'll say it again, OPINION.
I also have a hard time believing that you're so knowledgeable about these fish after you stated that they are "not venomous whatsoever", when they definitely are.

Now, PLEASE, take your OPINIONS somewhere else. I am done discussing this with you.

You realize you just made yourself look really stupid with that, right?
That article is referring to a completely different fish.

"stonefish" and "lion fish" are just common names that people use. They are TOADfish.

Actual stonefish are venomous, and so are lionfish; but those are not the same fish as this. They aren't even in the same family.

Before you try to argue about something you clearly know nothing about, at least make sure you're on the right topic

Ive had the "brackish water" type of stonefish live in my full freshwater for 6months. Healthy and eats pellets. And not aggressive at all. I say go for it. Never had any signs of it hurting other fish. Which is what i was worried about

Okay, let me just add my 0.2 cents here...

I've actually also in the past tried keeping the same species of Stonefish that Charles currently owns in his brackish tank, except i kept mine in a full fresh setup, and i can tell you first hand that mine did not last for more than 2-3 months... at which point after a lot of research from a few different sources i found out that yes, they do indeed require a brackish - marine environment to THRIVE, so in other words; will they merely survive in freshwater, the short answer is yes, but only for a very short amount time...

Where as the Freshwater Species i posted a picture of is actually a true freshwater species of stonefish / toadfish... although even i'll admit over here in Hong Kong i've only seen them for sale on 2 occasions... so i'm guessing they are not the most common fish to come by, where the brackish water one i see at least a few times a year in they are in season...

Can i just ask is he still alive and in freshwater? if so how long has your fish been in a full freshwater setup?

You're right, I just looked it up and they are only "venomous to some extent".
See that? That's called taking in what someone else says, and admitting that I was wrong.
Unfortunately that seems like something you're unable to do, so please, STOP. You're are completely off-topic for this thread, not discussing my original questions. I'm not sure how I can make this any more clear to you, but I'll try saying it one more time; please take your OPINIONS elsewhere.

Actually, if you check out the links to the threads I posted a few posts back, you'll see that there are a people posting there who have kept their FW Stonefish in FW for many years. :)

As soon as I say something that's wrong, I'll be glad to admit it.
They are not venomous at all, but the bacteria in their thick slim-coat can cause a nasty infection in human if they get stabbed and fail to properly clean it. Thus causing people to say they're "venomous"

And Fat Homer, I have mine in a full marine tank. Right now he lives in the sump of my reef tank and is fat and healthy, SG 1.022

How the heck did you get him to eat pellets? I've only heard of them eating live foods and occasionally fresh/thawed fish
