then what do you think? that is 100% not a gator, body shape and fins don't look like a shortnose. the other option would be longnose but this snout doesn't seem to be that long. and there are also spots on the back of this fish, this fish is stressed and most likely stunted.
it only looks to be 6-8" long. it's a Florida gar, washed out colors as it's stressed, he probably just moved it in but I don't see stunting, needs to be fed though

I mean, the eye is really big, usually young stunted fish will have bigger eyes than a normal looking fish of the same specie.

the eye doesn't look out of proportion to me, the gar just looks thin. it will full out
