Oh from these extra photos, I think it does look Shortnose (especially in that last shot). I also do remember TFD selling shortnose way back then but I don't remember seeing their photos. Now days (recent years maybe since 2017) Shortnose gars are almost nonexistent in the aquarium trade. You'd have to catch them yourself to get one. Anyway, Solomon would probably be the best person to ask for a 100% confirmation though.According to my thread was 8/25/2010 at 6 inches.

In case, you’re wondering why I said it’s possibly Florida. They tend to be the most commonly sold gars in the aquarium trade. Like I said they can vary a lot in terms of snout length, pattern and color. Here are some of my old Florida gars (wild caught ones from same batch). I’ve seen some with crazy full of markings, weird/odd patterns and some with little to no markings at all.I' have to check my old threads to see about more pics. As for size I believe it was around 10-12 inches at that time and I got it from TFD/Tropical Fish Distributors. I had it with a regular Florida(except he had a booped snout when I bought him). Te colors on the fish were so different. You can see it has this weird lavendar/grey hue while my Florida under the same lights looked green. When it first came in it completely lacked pattern and almost looked like a platinum. Within a couple of days and feedings it looked as pictured.
Nah, I totally understood why. Nice Floridas by the way. I was actually just trying to find Solomons username. Lol I knew exactly who you meant and knew it was Eamericanus but couldn't remember exactly so I resorted to looking at every Gar thread from 2005 going forward after E.americanus didn't work in the username search. In case, you’re wondering why I said it’s possibly Florida. Yeah its too bad he hasn't been active on MFK. after viewing all gar threads, i found out that His expertise and knowledge proved to be very usefull in the past and would have been now as well. Hope he returnsNah, I totally understood why. Nice Floridas by the way. I was actually just trying to find Solomons username. Where did you catch it in Texas? As far as I'm aware, shortnose gar range is very limited in Texas. While Spotted gars are much more wide spread in Texas. Both species look very similar when small like this. I'm thinking it might be a very young spotted gar but do update us as it grows.View attachment 1544249
