Thans that's what I thought, but the store advitised it as south american gar. He seems to be a bit between a striped and spotted variety

That is a Florida gar. Colour will likely darken up quite a bit from what it is currently
How do you tell if it is florida?

Im goin to comtank it with aro pbass oscar and bichir, will it be safe?

Florida gar with have a narrower mouth than alligator gars. Eyes are smaller. They will generally have spotting on the caudal fin, as opposed to stripes. As well the pattern of spots here is a fairly typical of Florida gar.

As I stated in your other thread, an aggressive community tank is not a good place for a gar. It is those sort of situations that can lead to broken backs and a dead gar. By no means does this happen in every case, but it can happen. So personally the only thing on your list I would comm the gar with would be the bichir.

What kind of gar is this?

I believe this is an alligator gar. The large eyes and fins suggest that it is an alligator gar. The deformed mouth, is more common in asian bred Florida gars, but I have seen a couple gators with this. Colouring is typical of white tank treatment gars, very faded with a bit of patterning on the back. When moved into a darker tank this pa

If you are able to get pictures from different angles a more definitive if could be given.
