Thank you guys. That's what I had hoped, great to hear a consensus. 
So a lady called me at the pet store I work at the other day, and said she had 3 gar she wanted to re-home. OKAY!
I didn't ask any questions. She showed up today. She brought me 2 12" florida gar and this little guy...

It's not a true gar, but I'm not sure what it is beyond that.
i figured it out. it is

Yup it's a Hujeta aka "Freshwater Barracuda". I have one that's about 9" and he's an awesome fish. Strikes super fast when I feed him live food.
I don't know why yours is that color though. they should be silver like this:
how much are these worth? I have to sell it as it will get rocked in my tank...

long nose gar, some people call them needlenose gar!
