juvenile gars of various species can hang on to the lateral (and in some cases dorsal) striping until they are even 10-12" in some specimens. this condition is pretty variable.--

okay i was wondering what kinda gar this is so i can research it since local shop has it labeled as a gar and it's for 25 bucks.

Florida gar, i think the curvature is from the photo, not the fish itself. it's a scary day when pet supplies plus is bringing in gars...not sure what to think about that. either way, nice find!--

ya, it is kinda odd that pet supply plus carrys them, also it's the picture/how he was in the tank. cause he has his tail fin "bent".
 
again... florida gar. looked like my old one, only mine was smaller.

damn...this one is rather small like 8 inchs or so. but now just gotta read up and figure out what the hell the flordia's eat.

Mine took about any floating food eventually-various pellets, freeze dried krill. Hopefully they've already gotten it off of live food, but either way it should accept live fish (but I would only do it with known healthy feeders, not just anything from the pet store)
