GIANT gouramis

Well Grace tries to knock the crap out of her tank mates but as they all went in at the same time there is a bit of tolerance.

Added an arowana the other week and she beat it up straight away.

Ok, when i seriously started fish keeping when i was 14-15, i had a friend whose family runs a cichlid farm. I bought lots of fishes from them. After loosing lots of fishes due to fights, his mum told me, " if ur fishes r beating the hell out of each other, means u dun have enough fishes in ur tank!" This tip seems to work for me so far. But of cos, must be able to maintain the water quality.:D

Here's some pics i saw in another forum. Amazing number of fishes and all seems to be doing great!

I see what you are saying but to me that tank is massively overstocked, don't get me wrong it is a big tank but still overstocked.

I agree that its seriously overstocked too. I'm just amazed at the health of the fishes. If the owner really grew all the fishes from young, its really a feat!

WOW!! i really dont see why anybody would want to stock so heavily with huge fish. How could you even enjoy that tank? Way too many monster fish in one tank..

Hi. I have a question to the community at large to see if anyone has any info. I have a male Giant Red Fin Gourami that is all red (fins and body) with a blue head. I have been searching for a similar image everywhere and have found nothing. The only images I have found (including on here) are with gray body and the fins are red. Is it possible the gray body variety is a farm raised fish? I rescued my fish as a 4" fry from a LFS. He was in a tank with juv. green terrors who chewed all his fins off (his pectorals where just stumps :WHOA:)! Fortunately, he survived and healed quite nicely except his pectorals did not re-grow correctly. So he does not swim as well as perhaps he should. Making sure he got food in a community tank was a challenge as the faster fish would eat everything. So I got into the habit of spoon feeding him (literally) to make sure he got fed. A habit I still do today and that was over 15 years ago (he is 14" now). As a species they were virtually unheard of back then and highly doubtful anyone was farm raising them yet. Can anyone shed some light on the differences? This has been bothering me for the past several years that I have unable to locate a single image similar to my Gourami. I will post a pic soon, but was wondering if anyone has heard or seen what I am talking about? Thanks for any info.

Without a picture it's impossible to say.

These fish are farmed heavily for food so it could be mutated color.

It's most probably a red tail but there is a genus that has never turned up on this thread or anywhere for that matter but there is a documented 4th variety of giant gourami that is called
septemfasciatus, so it could be that but doubtful.
