Green terror is a commom name for all three sub species: Andinoacara stalsbergi, Andinoacara sp. Gold/Silver saum and Andinoacara rivulatus.
They were formely Aequidens, but have been renamed as Andinoacara. The common name fake green terror stems from when the Saum was first introduced into the hobby as Green terror, despite the stalsbergi already being named as such. Therefore, someone decided to name them as fake green terrors to differentiate. This didn't really stick, so they named stalsbergi the 'True' greer terror. Which has worked out better. Finally, after a change around they will now be refered to (or should be) Gold, Silver or white Saums. White or silver are the same. Whilst Andinoacara rivulatus is a whole different kettle of fish!
I have currently 3 Andinoacara stalsbergi (The true green terror) and let me tell you they are amply named, as they are true terrors. The aggression of these vs saums is massive. They have an inverted scale pattern whereby the centre of the scales contains the colour, whereas on saums, it is the outside of the scales where the colour is. The stalsbergi grow smaller at around 8-9" max whereas saums are 10"+. The stalsbergi colours are very different, if you give them a search on google you'll se what I mean.
They are both great fish to keep. However, If faced with a choice I would always go stalsbergi. After keeping them both I personally find this to be the more interesting species. Also, they aren't as common - which I kind of like. So there isn't a set rule to keeping them, as is with saums. The only downside is can find little info on them.
I hope this makes sense and isn't information overload. My specialty is Green terrors and you wouldn't believe the amount of research I have done
