I’d imagine a large tank is still necessary along with large groups though, I can’t see a group of 6 lines in less than a 75, unless you were going for a species only. Do they form pairs?
I know it’s interesting with firefish, cardinals, and chromis. They hate each other in some tanks and school perfectly in others.
I had a big group of pajama cardinals, they dont hate each other its a matter of having enough individuals just like tiger barbs. The only SW tank I ever kept was a 90g w/40gallon sump but yes, I imagine you're right on tank size or tons of rock work. i am definitely more into fish that should be kept in a FOWLR setup than a reef setup so i could stock a little bit more than you can reef wise.
my favorites that I've kept are a bluethroat trigger pair, maroon clowns, i had a group of leopard wrasse, kole tang, flame angel and picasso triggers is my absolute fav. SW fish I've kept.

Across the street from my place , and about 100 yards off shore is a small reef, and a large rock used by fish as a cleaning station.
I try to snorkel out there at least twice per week (except during jelly fish season).
There are cleaner wrasse, Cortez wrasse, and many others.
Best to watch full screen, and volume down.

I think I figured out what’s in the box. The seller has one other fish for sale, a creek chub that he caught. So I bet he caught a sunfish or a bass

Do you keep wrasses? Out of all perciforms they're the closest to cichlids, so it could be expected their behavior is similar too.
I’ve kept many types of wrasse and they’re behavior is quite different than most cichlids. They’re extremely active and intelligent and curious. Mine almost never stopped swimming except to pick at live rock.
Here’s a vid of the last wrasse I kept

Interesting. Cichlids are also curious and probably intelligent, but they are notably slow or sedentary fish, which I think is a marked contrast to the wrasse activity shown there.
