Say they can't order me a tank that is already drilled, it's not a necessity right? I can just use a couple of overflows can't I? Sorry if I'm being dense
I'm ordering this tank through a LFS I frequent that can use as much help as they can get, plus they'll sell me the tank at cost.
Your not being dense at all. Hob overflows are great but there are a few downsides.
The u tube that carries the water from the wier inside the tank is a point of failure. If it becomes dislodged your pump (in the sump) will continue to pump water up into the tank which will flood since the u tube is no longer moving water out of the tank.
They are a bit noisy because air is in the lines the drains are not full siphon so you'll hear gurgling sounds.
Will a drilled tank you can set up the drains in a way where you have dry emergancy drains that way if something goes wrong with the main siphon drains...no flooding the edrains will take on the flow.
Silence lol the drilled tank can be set up in a way where you woukdnt even no its running. The siphon drains have no air in them think about when your doing a water change. The hose draining the tank is a full siphon no air. Doesnt make any noise whatsoever.
All that being said i have a 150 with an eshopps overflow. It in the basement so the noise isnt a big deal. It was in the garage over the summer and while i was out of town something happened and the u tube got knocked loose and the tank flooded the garage. Probably my kids messing with it.
I guess if i duct taped iy in place it woukdnt have happened. Their are also ways to quiet the overflow down. Look uo hoffer gurgle buster. I got one to work on a smaller overflow but for somereason couldnt get it to work on the current eshopps...probably due to lack of patience.
If all else fails you just get canisters not the end of the world but allot more maintenance.
