Okay, I think it's official: pacu mom pacu mom has the most gorgeous backyard view of any of us!

We've had a weird fall; cold/warm, snow/rain, over and over. The beginning of deer season was pretty much ruined by a ridiculous warm front that hit us the day before the opener...but by the end of the first week we got a beautiful dump of snow and had a great season.

Oddly for us, we have had several more extreme weather swings since then. This morning when I took Duke for his walk down the road, the fog was so thick that we quickly turned back; too dangerous to walk along the road. But the cold temps, well below zero, led to condensation on every surface, producing an effect that I always love to see:

It's tough to capture the effect in a pic...or at least it's tough for me!...but the white crystalline "fur" on every twig and branch creates a magical effect.

It also turns the roads into skating rinks, so this is best appreciated by retirees who don't need to get to work. :)

What's that white thing called?
Warm day for me today. Top of 29 and the sun will be blasting out on all of us.
I would take Midwater Midwater 's temps any day over sitting it the direct sun.

Beautiful pics! Why is it that I am suddenly very cold?

As for my backyard, there are downsides to living here...we don't know that will get to us first and wipe us off the map .... a fire or Cascadia Subduction Zone going off. Meanwhile, there are always threats of landslides and closures of roads leading out of our area. One time, Hwy 101 N and S were closed to landslides/flooding, and Hwy 199 was closed to a landslide. The only way to get out or in was by plane for a few days.

Yeah, while I envy the beauty of your surroundings, the area simply has too many potential ticking time-bombs for me to actually want to live there.

Our topography is pretty boring...but there is no ocean to slide into, no mountain to fall off of, and absolutely no relief to the landscape to initiate a mudslide.

Of course...when it floods, the water is everywhere...not just in low-lying areas...because all the areas are low-lying! :)

Lol, we usually have a White Thanksgiving...I am referring here to the American Thanksgiving at the end of November. It's virtually a guarantee that there will be snow on the ground.

Come to think of it, our Canadian Thanksgiving...which is in the middle of October, when we gather together to give thanks for our insane taxes, inflated prices and lower wages...is often a White Thanksgiving as well. It missed by a couple days this year, although that early snow actually melted away before being quickly replaced with fresh new stuff.

All of our local hares are fully white now, and yesterday I was rummaging about in one of our outbuildings and was thrilled to see a snow-white Ermine. He was very bold and unafraid, literally running between my feet several times. Very exciting if you are into that sort of thing; I am! :)
