Man, it's amazing how inoffensive snowstorms can be when I read about them happening to other people!
Yesterday the weather gurus were telling us we were supposed to have high winds, gusting to 60kph. The forecast continued to blather on about that until almost suppertime...despite the fact that we were experiencing that prairie rarity of
calm air. It was so beautifully calm...although cold at -25C...that I was outside practicing my flycasting on the unbroken snow alongside my driveway...fully clothed, not
@Ogertron3000 -style
. At my flycasting skill level, literally any breath of wind is a potential disaster, but yesterday the line was looping and flowing with an almost dreamlike perfection. If only I could do that on the water...
Today, temperatures are much higher, around -5C, but winds are back in the 40kph range gusting to 60kph. IMHO, -5C with high winds is far more uncomfortable than -25C in still air. Snow is now coming down in typical Manitoba fashion, i.e. sideways. We aren't scheduled to get much of it, but it will drift and accumulate as it always does. I won't be flycasting anytime soon...
We were planning on going icefishing tomorrow, but the roads into the icehut village likely won't be plowed in time, so...nope...
