how cold of temps can oscars handle??

You also have to take into consideration that your temps right now are 74-76 degrees, but when it gets colder out will they stay like that? Imo anything less than what you currently have your oscar at will not be too healthy!

i have had tropicals for the past few years now. i have never kept them in the 80's. mid to uper 70's always. never had a problem with illness. but i guess since i have talked to yall thats all going to change. if the house stays at an okay temp the water might never dip below mid 70's, thus no need for a heater, but i understand thats just an outlandish concept, im sorry for running that by yall.

for some reason I thought you said it dropped to 71 degrees....

i currently dont have a heater in the tank. it has be staying between 75-79 (F) depending on house temps. well its been getting colder out and it was about 71 this morning.

listen, we could take jabs at each other all day, it wont get anyone anywhere. If you can keep the tank between 75-79 consistently you will be most likely be fine.
