How Do I Breed Bettas?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
plactic shoe boxes work best for breeding
along with some hidding spots for the female
or just some live plants
you guys need alot of females because the males do alot of killing

i agree on the mating part...not so hard, they WANT to do that...but keeping the fry alive and growing out not so easy. i suggest purified water, the tiniest of fry food and a good heater.make sure you use a 'betta tea' and a good hunk of floating plants. i have bred and hatched them many times, and never managed to get one baby to live.

i use a internal and have 5 inches of sponge put over it lol i htink it will work :P

yes...but do be careful, the fry are tiny...i had to look for mine with a magnifying glass sometimes. i did not use a heater because i was in hawaii when i was breeding, with five gallon tanks on top of bookshelves in the office.windows. i guessed the weather was close enough to natural environment.and about the males killing the females? i have seen some full grown ladies whoop on the guys, too.so try to make sure they are the same size, female bettas fight, too.

wow i didnt know that better keep that in mind lol i guess the females can be abusive to :P

i have a serious on the topic of breeding Betta's.
i know people keep Betta's in small jars is that good for them?
and if they are kept in jars will it make them less friendly too other Betta's because they are not use too them?
