Basically I brought a motoro a few days ago and classic problem he's not eating (as far as I know) when feeding I've been leaving a few earthworms on the bottom and in the morning they are gone. I only have a fire eel that won't eat unless he is hand fed so I doubt it is him and an Arowana which is obviously top swimming and he very rarely goes below half way. I always feed my Arowana first then my fire eel and then I leave a few worms by my ray.
I know that you should always see a ray feed before buying but I had to order my ray in as my Lfs doesn't usually deal with specialist fish like these so watching him feed wasn't possible but I did make sure the supplier had him feeding and he confirmed he was even hand feeding and I do trust the suppliers word.

So I'm just wondering how long will they go without eating before the dreaded happens :(

I've tried ghost shrimp earthworms and frozen prawns so far what's the easiest to get them to eat?

Here's a pic, he looks pretty healthy as far as my rookie eye can tell

Any information/advice much appreciated
Thanks

Earth worms and ghost shrimp are deffinetly easyest. How long they can go without food? 1 month ive seen, but i think that if you pass a certan timeperiode(dont know how many days), it will only get harder and harder. But i wouldnt worry to much before going over 1-1,5 week.. Thinking back you should have added the ray to a tank where there was absolutley no tankmates to compeat for the food. Keep ligths off, water clean, and feed worms. If you feed them whole, try to chop them up in 1inch pieces.

Well I watched him for over an hour to see if he was gettin the worms or the others were pinching them, turns out he was having a go but Im guessing the worms were to big as he was chewing them up and spitting them out then eventually my Arowana dropped down and ate them so I dropped a cube of frozen bloodworm in and minutes after my ray was eating them like candy so I'm going to go to the local tackle shop and get some really small earthworms if that fails at least I know he will eat bloodworms

Thanks for the reply

You could always chop up the earthworms, I use scissors for smaller rays. Glad he is eating something for you just keep offering him different foods and give him whatever he will eat until he settles in for you

If you could, try live black worm to make sure your ray is eating and eating well. Next step is cut-up earth worm or night crawler, and then mixing cut-up night crawler and cut-up market prawn and then market prawn only... or switch to other food. That is how I train my baby ray anyway... just like other people's advice...
Best luck to you...

your ray is better shape then the 2 I recently purchased in the same fashion. I've had arrows and eels in the tank before and know that the other fishes get the food before the rays does, and you feeding the Aro and Eel first is good, as people have suggested chop them earthworms up. I have a cutting board and a decent knife dedicated to chopping earthworms for my pups. last than a month's time that I've had them, they have grown drastically. good water changes and high temp. I've recent added 2 more CB motor pups. All eat chopped up earthworms, bloodworms, occaissional cichlid foods.

My marble motor went 2 weeks without eating and she's fine now, seems like the stress of the move into a new tank was alot to handle

Little update, my motoro is now eating frozen bloodworm along with chopped up earthworms, going to try and slowly get him off the bloodworm and add some other foods thanks for the replies everyone

It depends how fat it is and how.big
Also how long you have had it
If you just got it and it's not fed it make just take time
If its just stopped feeding for no reason you need to work out why it's stopped feeding
