How long do dovii generally stay shy?

I picked up five silver dollars for the tank so hopefully that will get the dovii out and moving a little.

Try a school of SDs or Tinfoil Barbs.
Okay, remind me to never listen to you again. ;) The school of five SD's is now down to two silver dollars. Unfortunately I can't catch the remaining two to place them in isolation. Hope the dovii enjoyed the hunt and their meal. :(

i bought a male 10'' dovii a month ago and he's also shy... he was a beast (true glassbanger) when i seen him at the fish store. ever since i threw him in my 125... he's the total opposite

At least the dovii were "nice" enough to only eat the back half of each of the silver dollars. I guess that is a sign that they weren't killing them for food but rather just because they are little pricks.

My 10" dovii male was a glassbanger at 8", but his mate jumped and he got moved from the breeding tank into a larger tank, and now he hides all the time. I even got him a female and he is still hiding. I think the fact that dovii are so territorial that when they get moved it really freaks them out, and it takes a while to build their confidence back up, but thats just my opinion.

That probably has a lot to do with it. Maybe if I just leave the tank alone for a couple of months and don't bother them by doing water changes and sweeping the gravely they will be more outgoing. Something tells me the long term results from that might not be all that positive though. :)

Well they are still shy but apparently I now have a dominant male. When I went to view the tank yesterday morning one of the males (the smaller one) was on the bottom dead. Apparently he pissed off the other male sometime during the night. Up until then all was fine, I had never even seen them lip lock, just a little minor chasing.

The three remaining dovii still remain hidden most of the time, they will come out for food but that is about it except for when the lights are off. Hopefully they get over their shyness soon.
