Okay, remind me to never listen to you again

For one how large were the SD's compared to your Dovii?
Two, you never put fish straight in a tank without quarantining them for awhile.

My friend, I thought you knew better.

I've been keeping fish for about nine years and I can honestly say I have never quarantined a fish. I'm not saying it's right, actually I know it's not right, just saying what I do. I do make sure to only buy from trustworthy sources, I have one lfs that I trust, other than that I only buy from Jeff Rapps and Ken Davis. Regardless, quarantining would not have saved them from being eaten.

The silver dollars were about two - three inches. The Dovii were about 4" or so at the time.

By the way, I was joking about not listening. I even put the little winky smilie after my comment.

I say quarantine cause when I put my SD or Barbs straight from the store and in the tank they get killed!! I lost over a $100 dollars once. Usually I will put them in my 30 gallon for two-three weeks then when I clean the tank I move everything around and that is when I introduce them. This year however, with my latest stock I actually put the Barbs and SDs first then the cichlids. It seemed to work a lot better.
Good luck with you Dovii.

I wish I had a smaller tank that I could do that in. Unfortunately none of my tanks are "safe" for new arrivals. I guess I could have shown a little initiative and made a quick divider, I really didn't think it would be necessary though. The dovii had been with some small cutteri and some other small fish before I gave them the 210. They never messed with anyone. Unfortunately (for me and especially for the sd's) I was very wrong. :(

LowCel-talk about weird last night my Dovii, Trimac, and Xil. went on a rampage and killed my largest Tinfoil Barb. I am so angry-I mean they were all fine and in a blink of an eye they went bonkers and killed him.

I just bought a male 6-7" dovii 21/2 weeks ago and now he is still hiding under a tubing I got him, occasionally he would swim around but won't eat just pecks at it then spits it out( tore head of feeder and left the body) I got hakari red pellets doesn't eat either. He shares tank with a healthy 8" jaguar female but don't fight. I just don't want him to die of starvation what should I do or is this normal. Thaanks

if i were you, i'd remove their hiding places!

then i'd watch them for long periods of time, they come out and have a look at you.
eventually get used to you.

that's what i did with my old dovii anyway.

in a community, he was always out.

Just for the heck of it try some flake. My dovii (only have one now) prefers flake over every thing else. Also, he only likes to eat when the lights are dim, he doesn't seem to like a lot of light.

At least the dovii were "nice" enough to only eat the back half of each of the silver dollars. I guess that is a sign that they weren't killing them for food but rather just because they are little pricks.

lol your fish is racist. haha
